Party of 5

On January 11, 2011 (1-11-11, how cool is that!) at 1:42pm we welcomed our son, Eli James, to the world!  He is a great addition to our family and we all feel very blessed to be a family of 5!  Eli weighed 7 lbs 11 oz and was 19 inches long.

Here is Eli's birth story, I'll keep it short and sweet.

I had an elective induction at 39 weeks, so we had two great friends volunteer to take Ryan and Mackenzie before they had school, so after dropping them off we arrived at the hospital about 7:15am.  I was admitted, IV put in (although not hooked up yet) and had my water broke by about 8am and told to walk the halls for an hour.  After the hour was up they started the Pitocin, they checked my maybe hourly and kept increasing the Pitocin.  Around 11:45 I decided it was time for an epideral, I think I was about 4 or 5 cm.  The epideral went mainly into my left side, so my left leg was completely numb, talk about annoying!  At about 1:30 I was really feeling uncomfortable and discovered I was ready to push, I hadn't ever felt that with the other two children, with them I was kind of told to push.  My nurse, Kim, luckily came in the room to check on me and quickly called and paged my midwife.  My midwife came running and after 3 pushes and maybe 5 minutes later Eli was born.

Eli had to spend about 4 hours in the NICU to have his breathing monitored.  He was making a squeaking noise when he breathed, but luckily all of his vitals were normal so around 8:15pm he was able to leave the NICU.
